Entertaining
your children all summer can seem like a monumental task; there’s a reason why
parents give in and let their children become BFFs with YouTube. But living in
Longmont provides the unique opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. There are
all sorts of local summertime activities to keep your children busy and happy,
including the following:
Longmont
Museum
The Longmont Museum focuses on the history of the region,
local and international artists, and cultural explorations. It features a mix
of permanent exhibits showcasing Longmont’s past, as well as short-term
exhibits that rotate on a regular basis. Many of the exhibits are hands-on,
which makes them especially attractive to children. The exhibit dedicated to
space exploration is a kid-friendly perk, as well.
Dickens Farm
and Nature Area
Dickens Farm and Nature Area gives children a chance to interact
with nature in the St. Vrain Creek. Kids can explore the discovery trails, play
on the playground, tube along the slow-moving float course, hike, fish, and
perfect their bike skills on the rolling terrain.
Get Air
Sports
Get Air Sports is a trampoline park that gives
children a chance to get out all their extra energy. The park features
wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits, dodgeball, and an obstacle course. It has
an area reserved for young children and dedicates two hours on the first
Saturday of every month to jumpers with special needs.
Skateparks
Longmont
offers five skateparks that cater to different skill levels
and feature grinding rails, fun boxes, quarter pipes, and more. Admission is
free at every park but limited to hours of operation. Safety equipment is
highly encouraged, especially for those whose drop-ins are likely to result in
wipeouts.
Ninja
Warrior Training
The WarriorPlayground is
a training facility for ninjas in the making. It offers obstacle courses, a
rock wall, and organized training for kids as well as grownups. Sign your kiddo
up for a class or day camp, or drop in during open gym to help them perfect
their ninja skills. They’ll be tossing throwing stars in your direction before
you know it.
Whether
you’re looking to enjoy fun in the sun (or under fluorescent lighting),
Longmont doesn’t disappoint. With so much to do, there are plenty of chances to
give the little ones a summer they can brag about.
