It’s the most wonderful time of the year (for Windex): Spring cleaning! Usher out the old and bring in the new by rejuvenating your floors, doors, and crevices. There are all sorts of ways to roll up your sleeves and slap on some suds. Consider starting with the following chores:
Donate Old Clothes
There is no bad time of the year to donate clothes, but spring is particularly apt, as you decide which warm clothes you no longer like, want, or fit into. If you’re feeling charitable, don’t stop at your sweaters or wool socks; look around for other non-clothing items you can give away. After all, a decluttered home can lead to a decluttered mind.
Give the Windows Some TLC
Spring is an ideal season for pampering your panes by giving your windows a good washing. But it’s not just the interior glass that needs some tender loving care; consider washing your window blinds, as well, removing all the winter dust, dirt, and grime that has inevitably built up.
Focus on the Fridge
For some people, the refrigerator is an endless cavern of surprise, filled with Jello molds of holidays past and the restaurant take-out you from six months ago. Cleaning your fridge not only keeps it organized while reducing odors, but it also prevents you from eating something moldy, chunky, and just plain gross. Your GI system thanks you for that.
Clear Out the (Storage) Closet
Ridding your storage closet of winter gear (like snowboards, skis, and snow shovels) to make way for warm-weather equipment (like bikes, soccer balls, and volleyball nets) is a must-do come spring! If you don’t have somewhere your snow gear can be exiled (such as a storage unit), organize your closet so that winter gear is toward the back, while your more seasonal goods are effortless to access, sitting pretty front and center. If you come across equipment you no longer use, donate it to someone who will.
Scrub the Baseboards
Scrubbing the baseboards is one of the most overlooked household chores on the proverbial to-do list (perhaps because people don’t fancy throwing out their backs). But, unfortunately, baseboards are havens for household dirt, especially following winter months when boots tend to bring in mud, soiled snow, and slush. To clean the boards without bending over, consider using a microfiber mop filled with soapy water.
Spring cleaning is a necessary activity, even if it’s not an exciting one. While it can be hard to get down with disinfecting, there’s no better way to start the season than with a clean sweep.
