As Mother Nature adjusts her attitude and ushers in warmer weather, it’s time to emerge from hibernation. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far; you can enjoy Colorful Colorado in your own backyard.
If you’re looking for something new, consider the following:
Say Cheese!
The Haystack Mountain Creamery is known for its delicious cheeses and European bistro. It’s open for private tours that last roughly two hours and offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what happens inside a creamery, as well as instruction on how to make various types of cheese.
Go Clean & Green
Celebrate Earth Day by helping clean up. Downtown Longmont’s Clean & Green is an event that rids Main Street of waste, spiffies up alleys, and cleans out tree grates. Volunteers are treated to a light breakfast, lunch at 99 Bar, and a souvenir t-shirt.
Hop on the Brewhop Trolley
The Brewhop Trolley is the perfect way to get on a roll on a warm spring evening. This trolley takes riders through a guided tour of Longmont’s various watering holes — breweries, cideries, distilleries, and wine bars. Hop on and off at 14 different venues (the trolley stops at each venue once an hour), celebrate community, stay safe, and toast to springtime.
Explore the Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain
The Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain is located in the Boulder County foothills and offers tons of plants, wildlife, and geological features to explore. Hoping to get your steps in? It’s the ideal spot with trails that allow for biking, hiking, dog walking, and horseback riding. Trails range from easy to moderate.
Fish at the Button Rock Preserve
If you’re looking for some “reel” fun, Button Rock Reserve provides a sea of opportunity. You can opt to fly fish in North St. Vrain Creek or along the easily-accessible river at Longmont Reservoir. You’ll also find plenty of brown trout, rainbow trout, and splake at Ralph Price Reservoir, although you need a special permit to catch them.
As spring springs into action, there is lots to do in Longmont. Give one of the above a try and see why staying local feels awesome.
