Coloradans love their four-legged BFFs, which is part of the reason it’s such a dog-friendly state. Longmont, in particular, offers all sorts of options for a tail-wagging adventure. Whether you’re looking to hike with your hound or want to relax while they stretch their legs, consider visiting one of the following:
Union Reservoir
Union Reservoir is ideal for dogs that love the water. It features an off-leash area located on the south side of the reservoir where dogs can swim, play, and practice their barkstroke ;). Your dog can also join you on your paddle board or venture out into other land-based areas of the park, although a leash is required outside of the canine-specific compounds.
Rough and Ready Dog Park
The Rough and Ready Dog Park is perfect for energy-filled pooches who want to frolic and run. It’s a frequent spot for busy pet owners looking to satisfy their dog’s daily exercise needs in one outing. There is a playground nearby, as well, in case you’d like to tire out human children in addition to your furry ones.
Coot Lake
Coot Lake is near the Longmont/Boulder border, located close to the Boulder Reservoir. While this lake makes for a picturesque day trip, it comes with certain canine caveats. Dogs are allowed to swim on the east and south shore areas, but prohibited from the west side and wetlands area. They must also be registered in the Voice and Sight Tag Program to go leash-free.
Button Rock Preserve
Button Rock Preserve is a walk-in preserve along St. Vrain Creek that is located just outside of Lyons. The area offers a unique experience due to its serene views and wildlife viewing opportunities. Dogs are allowed but must stay leashed, and visitors are limited to one dog apiece. If you have multiple mutts, they’ll have to draw straws.
Blue Skies Park
Blue Skies Park sits on 11 acres and features tons of activities, including a roller rink, a playground, basketball courts, and walking/biking trails. An off-leash dog area is located on-site, as well. The park is well-known for its aviation theme; bring your Airedales and Skye Terriers!
From the Chihuahuas to the Great Danes, pups love to get out and play. Try one of these spots to make sure your dog has its day all year long.
