Labor Day marks the unofficial close to summer. While warm weather might linger for several more weeks, being back in school certainly puts a crimp on fun in the sun. But there’s no reason the season can’t go out with a bang. In fact, there are tons of events that allow you to bid summer adieu in style, including the following:
CU Buffs vs. TCU Horned Frogs
The CU Buffs kick off their season on September 2nd against the TCU Horned Frogs at Folsom Field. While the Buffs have disappointed their fans in recent years, every team is undefeated once again! Watch Ralphie run, sit under the lights, and toast to plenty of touchdowns for the black and gold.
Louisville Labor Day Parade
The Louisville Labor Day Parade takes place on Monday, September 5th. While the actual parade begins at 10am on Main Street, the children’s pet parade starts an hour earlier. All sorts of animals are welcome, including dogs, cats, alpacas, and goats. Kids with stuffed animals can participate, as well. After all, teddy bears aren’t likely to leave a mess on the parade route.
Longmont Farmers Market
The Longmont Farmers Market runs every Saturday until November, including Labor Day weekend. Located at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, the market is open from 8am to 1pm. It’s the perfect place to pick up fresh veggies, juicy fruit, meat, and more for your Monday barbecue. Enjoy live music and sample local offerings while you shop.
St. Vrain Creek
Tubing is not an activity limited to Labor Day, but as fall rears its cooler head, a three-day weekend provides one of the last chances of the season to take a ride down St. Vrain Creek. There is no charge to use the creek, but recreational enthusiasts are cautioned to participate at their own risk and safety equipment is encouraged.
Taste of Colorado
The Taste of Colorado is a long-time staple of the Front Range, a Labor Day tradition that draws over half a million people. Located in Civic Center Park in Denver, it’s a bit of a drive for those who live up north, but one that’s worth it. This end-of-summer celebration features live performances and music, carnival rides, crafts, and loads of family-friendly activities. However, it’s most well-known for its food. Make sure you come hungry.
Whether you’re into football games or funnel cakes, Labor Day weekend gives you plenty of opportunities to sink your teeth into summer before autumn comes knocking.
