Best Places for Apple Picking Near Longmont, Colorado

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, just imagine what an entire orchard can do! Fortunately for those who love apples to their core, the pickings aren’t slim when finding bushels. Several places near Longmont make apple picking a fruitful experience. Consider visiting the following:

Ya Ya Farm and Orchard

Ya Ya Farm and Orchard is a century-old farm specializing in heirloom apples. Located off Ute Highway in Longmont, it’s full of family-oriented fall activities that include many farm animals (horses, mini donkeys, chickens, peacocks, ducks, and more). If you’re in the market for anything apple, from cider to pie to donuts, Ya Ya is the place to go. Reservations are required for apple picking, and slots tend to fill up fast!

Adam’s Apple Orchard and Country Store

Adam’s Apple Orchard and Country Store is located in Ault, roughly 50 miles north of Longmont. While the farm primarily grows apples, it also offers several types of pears and plums. The apple-picking season lasts 11-12 weeks before making way for prime pumpkin time. If jellies are your jam, the orchard also sells a variety of jars and other fruits, salsas, and ciders.

Nelms Farm

Located in Golden, 30 miles southwest of Longmont, Nelms Farm was founded in 2012 and focuses on pesticide-free and chemical-free apples. Guests can pick apples directly from the trees or purchase other produce from their fruit stand. A small-ish, mom-and-pop orchard, Nelms caters to families with several low-hanging apples within arm’s length of children. This allows them to get in on all the picking pleasure! Reservations are required.

Apple-Picking Tips

To make the most of your apple-picking experience, consider the following tips:

  • Wear layers, as Colorado is known for its rapidly changing weather during autumn.

  • Wear sunscreen, even if it’s cloudy.

  • Wear comfortable shoes, as finding the perfect pickings can require a lot of walking.

  • Bring a bag or bucket (these may or may not be supplied by the orchard).

  • Be prepared to get dirty!

Whether you’re after a single bushel or your mini-orchard, apple picking is a fun, unique, and fabulous fall-centric activity.
